The aim of this project is to digitize the route and public transport infrastructure information onto a portal which is assessable to public for planning their journeys and identification of Public Transport Infrastructure on an interactive map. Presently, the Transport Department do not owns a portal which is used for this purpose. The benefits of the PTIMS will be two fold, firstly, it will help passengers for both inter and intra city to locate the nearest terminal / stop and plan journey accordingly, secondly, it will provide a database to the Transport Department and District Authorities for issuance of route permit and monitoring of services. Transport Planning Unit (TPU) has planned to develop the Punjab Transport Infrastructure Management System (PTIMS) for effective oversight of developing the transport infrastructure and help optimizing the service delivery. The proposed system will take into account the present condition of transport infrastructure and associated facilities from all over the province.
PTIMS initiative is proposed by TPU in the following phases:
- Spatial database of Route Alignment
- Spatial Database of General Bus Stand Survey & Private Bus stands (A, B & D Class)
- Journey Planner for Urban Routes
Provincial policy framework must be set down how the strategic infrastructure is to be planned, evaluated developed and financed as well as solid basis for communication with stakeholders and public.
It is only after conducting a comprehensive survey of the present facilities that TPU would be able to ascertain the on-ground situation and would work to suggest remedial measures for improving the situation.
