Parking is and will remain an issue that affects everyone in Urban Areas. Parking has become one of the most important factors that have to account for. Lack of accessible parking is creating congestion problems. There is significant and tremendous increase in the demand of parking spaces due to increase of Traffic now a day, which are leading to congestion of on-street and off-street spaces in the city. With rapidly increasing population, the problem becomes more critical. Optimization of parking sites, is essential at this stage.
The goal of this project is to utilize GIS technology to provide Citizens of Lahore with innovative parking facilities and to utilize GIS expertise into a parking management system capable of providing permanent solutions to parking problems.
In order to demonstrate the utility of GIS in parking management, project team developed, GIS Based PMIS, and used the technology to manage and analyze the data which was collected during field survey of parking sites.
