Identification of Urban and Sub-Urban Bus Routes for Bahawalpur City

In line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, the Transport Department has been working to provide quality public transport in all districts of Punjab by providing the new environment-friendly CNG buses. Perusing the aforementioned initiative, all Secretary District Regional Transport Authorities (DRTAs’) of Punjab were instructed to identify / recommend and report all potential HOV (bus) routes in their respective cities / districts. The Secretary Transport assigned the task of identifying HOV (bus) Routes in Bahawalpur and to study the feasibility of proposed routes by Secretary DRTA, Bahawalpur, to Transport Planning Unit (TPU). In this regard, a team from TPU visited Bahawalpur on 16-07-2012 and 17-07-2012 and met with Secretary DRTA Bahawalpur, TMA Bahawalpur and Bus operators. The team also visited the proposed routes and location of terminals and carried out road and intersection inventory along with embankment of important land-use of the city. The objective of the study was to identify prospective routes for new CNG buses in the Bahawalpur City. The study methodology comprises of the following five major steps; Review of available information / data, Data Collection, Data Analysis, Recommendations, Report Preparation. The recommendation made by unit are adopted by the city officials and are being implementation.
