Bus Transport plays a vital role in fulfilling the needs of public. In Lahore city, both inter-city and intra-city bus terminals in Lahore are not properly planned and linked with public transport network. In addition, lack of capacity and poorly designed framework causes chaotic operations for the passengers. Keeping in view the debilitating situation of Public Transport System the Transport Department in collaboration with the City District Government Lahore intends to establish Multimodal Intercity Bus Terminals (MIBT) on G.T Road, Ferozepur Road, and Multan Road on a Public-Private Partnership (“PPP”) basis. The new terminals will be designed to facilitate intercity passengers through the provision of modern facilities matching international standards. The proposed MIBT will be well connected with the Bus Rapid Transit System, Intra-City Public Transport System, and Railway with proper roadway links to the Allama Iqbal International Airport via the Lahore Ring Road. This in turn would reduce travel time in the city, and the discomfort faced by inter and intra-city passengers.
Salient features of the project include:
- Three sites were identified in Shahdara, Thokar Niaz Baig and Gujjumatta for establishment of Multi-modal intercity Bus Terminals in Lahore
- Feasibility of Project prepared by Transaction Advisor i-e M/s Sampak International in PPP mode
- Concession period of 20 years on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis (2 years construction and 18 years operations and transfer to Government)
